DATA CENTRE ELECTRICAL SERVICES
As data centres host complex and diverse electronic and data systems needed for servers, cloud storage and networks, it is important for businesses in the technological sector to recognise the significance of regularly scheduling electrical testing services for proactive energy solutions and maintenance.
Why Regular Electrical Testing for Data Centres?
While the business spaces of data centres are required to have PAT and PIR testing, the core supporting electronic infrastructure and computing networks of data centres, require different specialised testing services to demonstrate compliance with numerous health and safety regulations and energy management practices in Ireland.
Such specialised testing services for data centres would include:
ELECTRICAL REGULATIONS AND SAFETY STANDARDS OF DATA CENTRES
Data centres electronic systems and supporting infrastructure must be regularly maintained and tested by qualified electricians or electrical contractors to demonstrate compliance with health and safety regulations and energy management practices in Ireland.
Understanding Data Centre Electrical Services
REPORTS AND CERTIFICATES
To ensure compliance for data centres, the PAT Group provides a diverse range of services to meet our clients’ needs for insurance purposes, scheduled services, ongoing maintenance and energy efficiency.
All services are carried out by our qualified electricians, who provide clients with detailed and comprehensive documentation, reports and/or certificates upon completion of works to demonstrate compliance with all current health and safety and electrical regulations. Likewise, these documents can be used for reference to update health and safety plans in the workplace and for continued monitoring and maintenance of systems.
WHAT IF THERE ARE ISSUES?
If there are any identified issues or disturbances to electrical equipment or systems, clear documentation will be provided which notes any deviations or abnormalities from the limits defined by compliance and safety standards (e.g. National Rules for Electrical Installations, Energy Management Systems, Earthing of power installations and HSA electrical safety requirements among others). Issues will be quickly addressed to avoid possible delays and to improve the overall energy efficiency of electrical systems.
DURING WORKING HOURS
Yes, services included for testing centres (in addition to PAT and PIR) such as HV/MV testing, LV System testing, grounding and earthing system testing, power quality analysis testing (PQA), battery and generator testing, and thermal imaging testing, can be efficiently carried out during regular working hours with little disruption to the day.
However, depending on the testing services needed, some clients may choose to have testing carried out during off-peak times to avoid disruptions with continuous operations. Considering that data centres support diverse IT and networking infrastructure, we offer free site visits to provide clients with an audit which comprehensively suits the needs of their systems and operations.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Depending on the services needed, testing can take as little as a few hours to several days, as some testing services will require for long-term data collection to identify and profile inefficiencies or hazards in systems and/or monitor their energy efficiency. For services that require longer-term data collection, monitoring equipment is safely left in-place (up to a few days or weeks), and this equipment will not cause any disruptions to productivity or operations. We are happy to provide timelines for recommended works and scheduled maintenance to clients on a free site visit.
